I was born 08.08.1964 in Zielona G鏎a, Poland. I graduated from
the Faculty of Basic Problems of Technology of Wroc豉w Technical
University in 1988. My M.S. Thesis „Computer Simulations of Side
Directed Mutagenesis and Is Influence on Proteins Activity and
Stability” was prepared in the Quantum Chemistry Group under a
guidance of prof. dr hab. in. A. Sokalski and resulted in
publication in Int. J. Quant. Chem. As a student I was a chairmen
of the Association of Biotechnology Students (1987-1988) where I
organized the Ist and IInd National Biotechnology Seminars. I
received three Chancellor of Wroc豉w Technical University Awards
(1985, 1986, 1988) and Minister of Higher Education Award („Primus
Inter Pares”) in 1987. I begun my doctoral study at
Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, USA in the group lead by
prof. J. Kincaid in 1989 . During my graduate study at Marquette
University I completed five proficiency exams in the first year of
the program and received: Dennis J. O'Brien Fellowship (1990),
Rev. J.P. Raynor, S.J. Fellowship (1991-1992) and “Certificate of
Accomplishment" in 1994. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in 1992
for Thesis: "Spectroscopy and Physicochemical Properties of
Ruthenium(II) Polypyridine Complexes in Free Solutions and
Entrapped in Zeolites". I continued research at Marquette
University as an Associate Researcher during my post-doctoral work
(1992-1995). After return to Poland in 1995 I begun to
work in the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research
(Polish Academy of Sciences) in Wroc豉w and in the Chemistry
Department of Opole University. The Scientific Council of the
Institute granted me a D.Sc. degree for „Physicochemical and
Spectroscopic properties of metal complexes and organic molecules
immobilized in zeolites and sol-gel matrices” in June of 1999. I
was nominated for an Assistant Professor position in the Institute
of Low Temperature and Structure Research in March of 2000. In the
same year I was also offered a professor position at the Wroc豉w
University of Technology which I accepted (ending my work at the
Opole University). In 1997 a Polish Scientific Research
Committee (KBN) grant „Technology and Physicochemical Properties
of Optical Chemi- and Biosensors (Optodes) Based on Sol-Gel Silica
Matrices” (of which I was a Principal Researcher) was nominated to
the „Polish Nobel” series. The results of the grant were evaluated
as „excellent” and described in several newspapers and TV
programs. I am/was involved in 14 other Polish grants concerned
with such devices. I was a member of a Coordinating Committee of a
SCI-TECH II grant (program Phare) related also to optical sensors.
I am a Coordinator of the European Center of Excellence
"Sol-Gel Materials and Nanotechnology" (SGM&N;
sgmn.immt.pwr.wroc.pl).
I was awarded four Gold Medals during the World Exhibition of
Innovation, Research and New Technologies Eureka in Brussels. The
Medals were awarded in: 1999 (with Distinction), 2000 (with
Distinction), 2002 and 2003. I participated in approx. 40
international conferences in Poland and abroad. I am an author of
62 published papers and two books. I have two patents and eight
submitted patents. Number of citations: above 217 (1989- May
2004). I supervised 1 finished PhD thesis. I am a supervisor of
seven PhD students. I was a co-organizer of ten conferences
including chairmanships of the „Sol-Gel Materials” International
Conferences Series (Rokosowo, Poland, 2001; Szklarska Por瑿a,
Poland 2003; Wroc豉w 2004, Poland, ( details ). I am a member
of the Polish Chemical Society. I am a Scientific Secretary of the
Materials
Science journal.
