It develops methods of experimental mechanics, mathematical modelling of damage processes in materials, evolution of biological systems, model similarity methods, experiment design making use of dimensional analysis. Large portion of research is devoted to description of fatigue and fracture processes in constructional materials. Elaboration of models of materials under complex varying loads constitutes another branch of research. Nondestructive fatigue tests are performed with the help of constructed models employing cross effects like magnetomechanical and thermomechanical ones (magnetovision, thermal analysis of stress state). Various polymer composites with programmed structure and properties are also studied. Manufacturing and identification of nanomaterials produced with sol-gel technologies (polymer sensors) occupies special attention. Large variety of magnetic materials belonging to the group of smart materials (magnetorheological liquids, giant magnetostriction materials, shape memory materials) are also examined.
